Types of matter
Where would
we be without matter? I sometimes think about it but don’t go to deep in. Some
might be wondering what matter is. Well matter is everything, it’s the earth,
me, and you; it’s everything. Matter can be broken down into solid, liquid, and
gas with all of them having unique properties.
One of the
most common type of matter to spot is solid. Solid are things like books,
tables, and pencils. They have definite shape and volume. Solids are everywhere
there is not a single place where a solid cannot be found. The atom of a solids
is compact; they move but not that much. The only way that solids lose their
shape is when you start to heat them up and they melt then turn into a liquid. The
atoms of the solid start to get hot and move around more.
Another
type of matter is liquids. They can move freely. Some liquids are water, apple
juice, and milk. They have a definite volume but not shape. Liquids take up the
shape they are given for example if I put water in a cup the water takes up the
shape. The atoms of a liquid are not compact like a solid but move more freely.
It’s because they don’t have to keep the same shape. If I took that cup of
water and dumped it out, the water would come out and spread as far as it
could.
Last but
not least is, gases are one the types of matter that is not as common as the
other two. Some gases are air, steam, and smoke. A unique property that gas has
is it doesn’t have is a definite shape or volume. Gases are important. Without
gases people wouldn’t breathe and other things would die, too. Gases move very
fast because the atoms of a gas are spread out not compacted together like a
solid. Just like if I took water on a fire the steam comes up very fast.
In the end
without matter nothing would be here, making matter such an important part. I don’t
even know how the world would look without matter. The first that come up in my
mind is just a blank white space, and that’s it just white space. Matter is a
simple topic that people can understand pretty easily.
